Issue 5: Veterans’ Arts Special

Like every issue of Performing Recovery, this publication offers stories around recovery. Unlike previous issues though, not every recovery is from addiction. For our fifth issue, we have decided to broaden our scope and look at how the arts are helping with the mental health of veterans in general. PTSD, homelessness, addiction, unemployment and loneliness can all come together in a mixture of cause and effect, as members of the armed forces adjust to civvy street. Yet arts, storytelling and community are all being shown to help veterans when the big transition has impacted lives adversely.

There are differences in these stories to ones you may have read in previous issues, but there are also similarities. And of course there is the one thing we all share – hope.
