The Performing Recovery Neurodivergence Special Issue is NOW OUT!
It’s been a while since the last issue, but we promise it’s worth the wait. This issue focuses on the intersection of art, addiction and neurodivergence.
The issue begins with an exclusive interview with Dr Raffaella Margherita Milani, psychologist and course leader for Addiction Studies at the University of East London. Marghe talks us through a new study on the experience of being neurodivergent while using addiction recovery services. The findings are important and highlight why thinking about neurodivergence is essential in recovery environments. She also explains some of the complex ways conditions like ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) interact with addiction.
We also have contributions from dancer and activist Stuart Waters, who outlines ways to make spaces more inclusive for diverse needs. Sunshine Witchski talks about how shame around neurodivergent traits can be transformed into strength. Annie King shares her own life story and discusses the power of the arts in educational settings, and how that can help us rethink recovery.
We also feature interviews with practising artists, musicians and playwrights about how neurodivergence has impacted their creative practices, as well as poetry from three neurodivergent writers in recovery.
Please enjoy!
As always, the electronic version is free to read online, download and even print out. You can also order printed copies from our web shop. All proceeds go towards supporting Performing Recovery so we can continue to support the community. https://performing-recovery.sumupstore.com/
