The Recovered Arts Film and Theatre Collective

The Recovered Arts Film & Theatre Collective is the creation of Artistic Director John-David (JD) Hutchison, a Vancouver-based filmmaker and director with lived experience of the healing power of the arts in sustaining recovery from alcohol and drugs.

The Collective aims to create a community of film and theatre artists (professionals) to use the mediums of filmmaking and theatre to support others as they embark on and maintain lives in recovery. Individuals are empowered to explore their journey, from the reasons for addiction through to living life in sobriety, through storytelling and creative wellbeing activities. The program supports sustained recovery from addictions of all kinds by building community and articulating experiences to support positive change.

By creating safe and inviting spaces to learn, live, and grow, this community assists those in recovery to find healing through the creative arts

The goal of the organisation:

Use artistic expression to support sustained recovery.

Share passion and knowledge of the technique of filmmaking and theatre production to inspire continued recovery through living a creative life.

Peer-to-peer education in film and theatre-based creative outlets, including:

Filmmaking – Screenwriting, directing, cinematography, editing, and acting.

Theatre – Playwriting, directing, stagecraft, and acting.

Create film and theatre art to tell stories of addiction and recovery, by creating enriching experiences for audiences through dramatic, comedic and documentary short films/videos
