Messy Connections to launch during Creativity and Wellbeing Week

The launch party for Dr Cathy Sloan’s book, Messy Connections: Creating Atmospheres of Addiction Recovery Through Performance Practice, will take place at the University of West London Students’ Union on Tuesday, May 21, at 5:30 PM – 7:30 PM. The event will be held in Freddie’s Bar, featuring music from Simon Mason (Hightown Pirates) and spoken word by Hannah Stanislaus (Lost Souls Events).
Dr Sloan will be discussing her book at the event. Messy Connections, published by Routledge, is a groundbreaking study on recovery arts, covering the theory, the practitioners, and the creation of The Recovery Arts Network. The event is hosted by artist leon clowes and will be attended by many recovery artists, providing an excellent opportunity to meet fellow practitioners.

The event takes place during Creativity and Wellbeing Week, which is an initiative from London Arts and Health.
Creativity and Wellbeing Week is run by London Arts and Health and the Culture, Health and Wellbeing Alliance. The festival started as a small event based in London in 2012, to coincide with the Olympics. In 2019 the week went national for the first time – allowing thousands more people across the UK to participate in cultural and creative activities. The festival creates core partnership events, while encouraging and supporting organisations and individuals to organise their own activities.

Events can take any art form and can be held in clinical settings, cultural buildings or in the community – as long as they involve either accessing or participating in cultural activities that improve health or wellbeing.
