Portraits of Recovery (PORe) has been selected to join the Greater Manchester Combined Authority Culture Portfolio for 2023-26. This funding has been awarded to 40 organisations from across Greater Manchester to foster arts, culture and creativity.

Cllr Neil Emmott, Greater Manchester’s Culture lead, said: “This year’s Culture Fund grants will be supporting a whole host of inspiring and impactful cultural organisations across Greater Manchester.

“The 40 groups and organisations receiving funding range from the globally renowned to the locally treasured, but they all play a crucial role in our cultural ecosystem and contribute to our vision of a city-region where everyone has access to high quality culture and leisure opportunities.”

PORe director, Mark Prest, said: “We are truly thrilled to become part of the GM Culture Portfolio for 2023-26, as well as recently becoming an Arts Council England NPO. This financial support will help deliver our new, year-round programme of creative and cultural experiences that engage and celebrate people and communities in recovery from across Greater Manchester. PORe changes lives by uniquely looking at addiction and recovery through a cultural lens. Over 12 years, we have delivered award-winning projects with major arts organisations and leading national and international contemporary artists. People talk about the transformational power of the arts; through the visual arts, PORe’s work tells urgent, challenging stories that counter the usual clichés and speak powerfully of the lived Recoverist experience.”
